Staff at Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site and Richmond National Battlefield Park allocated $10,050 in America’s National Parks Funds at Work to create an interactive, adaptable educational exhibit inside a mobile National Park Service trailer. Featured at five major park events throughout the year, the traveling exhibit gave visitors a hands-on way to explore Civil War history.
Developed in partnership with Petersburg National Battlefield, the exhibit highlighted Richmond’s role as the capital and industrial center of the Confederacy and Petersburg’s vital role as its railroad and supply lifeline. Together, their stories provide a powerful historical bridge between the founding ideals commemorated during America’s 250th anniversary and the nation’s struggle to preserve the Union.
