Petersburg National Battlefield allocated $10,441 in America’s National Parks Funds at Work to support public programs, special events, trail maps, signage, and educational supplies. Replica soldier uniforms and black powder for historic weapons demonstrations helped bring the park’s history to life.

The funding supported 43 special programs that engaged more than 1,600 visitors. New signage and trail maps also helped guide and inform the park’s more than 10,000 annual visitors, particularly during special events.

As the nation honors America’s 250th anniversary, these programs invite visitors to explore a defining chapter in the American story. The struggle at Petersburg, whose outcome helped bring the Civil War to a close, offers a powerful lens into the nation’s founding ideals, the fight to preserve the Union, and the continuing effort to extend the promise of liberty to all Americans.
