EN Hosts 25th Anniversary Commemoration for Vietnam Women’s Memorial

Dec 19, 2018Field Notes

Last month Eastern National was proud to host a series of poignant events commemorating the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial. Over the course of Veteran’s Day weekend, thousands of people came to the National Mall from all over the country to honor the service and sacrifice of the 265,000 women veterans—military and civilian—who served during the Vietnam era.

Events included a moving candlelight ceremony on Saturday evening, November 10, and a storytelling program, “Vietnam: In Their Own Words,” on Sunday morning. The weekend culminated in the annual Observance at the Wall, where this year’s ceremony was dedicated to the anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial. Eastern National worked closely with the National Park Service, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial Advisory Group to ensure meaningful and moving experiences for all attendees.

Eastern National also hosted a pop-up shop with commemorative items at the nearby hotel where blocks of rooms were reserved for women veterans and their families. Products featuring specially developed logos were well received by shoppers and encouraged attendees to continue their conversations about women in Vietnam after the formal weekend ceremonies had ended. All proceeds from the sales support educational programs that enhance the visitor experience at America’s national parks.
