EN Grant Helps Expand Obed WSR Dark Sky Park Initiatives

Dec 19, 2018Park Story

A grant from Eastern National helped Obed Wild & Scenic River develop two new interpretive wayside exhibits that enhance the park’s Dark Sky Initiatives. Obed was recently designated an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association in recognition of the park’s commitment to preserving our night sky resource for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of present and future generations. The new wayside exhibits, “The Night Sustains Us” and “Night Skies Over Obed,” help connect visitors to these efforts.

Obed’s waysides include state of the art TeleVue telescopic eye pieces and will be displayed at the park’s primary night sky viewing locations at Lilly Overlook and Nemo Bridge, which are also the two areas of the park where interpretive programs are conducted. Visitors will now have additional resources to gain an in-depth look into the night sky and learn about why this global resource is so important.
